Monroe Reservoir-South Central Indiana
Approximately 65 miles South of Indianapolis
10,750 acres of water
Target Fish: Hybrid Striped Bass (Wipers)

Note: I launch at the Four Winds Marina area, as this is closest to the areas that I have found to be the best fishing.  The directions to Four Winds Marina are as follows:

  • Directions from Indianapolis:
  • South on SR 37 towards Bloomington. (Approximately 50 miles.)
  • Continue on SR 37 past Bloomington and towards Bedford. You will see a brown state park sign on the right side of SR 37 that says “Fairfax S.R.A.” and a sign to Smithville.
  • Turn left (East) onto this road and continue until you come to a four way stop sign. This will be Smithville.
  • Go through stop sign and continue to next stop sign. There should be a cemetery in front of you.
  • Turn right at this stop and continue on this road. This will take you to Four Winds Marina. There are 2 boat ramps at the marina. I use the one on the right side (New ramp).

Raccoon Reservoir (Cecil M. Harden)-Western Indiana
Approximately 45 miles West of Indianapolis
2,060 acres of water
Target Fish: Striped Bass, White Bass

Note: I launch at Raccoon State Park as this has the best ramp and facilities for my guests. It is also closest to the areas I have found to be the best fishing. The directions to Raccoon State Park are as follows:

  • Directions from Indianapolis:
  • From the West side of Indianapolis, take Rockville Road West –(U.S. 36) approximately 45 miles.
  • You will go through several small towns (Danville, New Winchester, Bainbridge) before you come to the lake.
  • You will cross the lake on a bridge.
  • The first boat ramp you will see after you cross the lake will be Hollandsburg. Do not turn here!
  • The next ramp is the State Park which will be on your left.
  • Turn into the State Park and continue to the boat ramp. The park road ends at the ramp.
